Hydrocortisone 1% Cream (Mild Corticosteroid - Eczema) vs Eumovate 0.05% Cream (Clobetasone Butyrate - Eczema)

Two steroid creams a step apart in strength. Hydrocortisone 1% is mild and the usual starting point, including on the face and in thin-skinned areas. Eumovate is moderately potent, for a flare that mild treatment has not settled, and is used on the body rather than the face.

Common questions

Start with the mildest that controls the flare, which is usually hydrocortisone 1%. If a patch on the body has not improved after about a week, a moderately potent cream such as Eumovate may be the next step. Keep using your moisturiser either way.
