Description

Usage

Take one capsule once a day with a meal containing some fat, to help absorption. This higher dose is usually taken for 8 to 12 weeks, after which your prescriber will typically arrange a blood test and may then reduce you to a lower, maintenance dose of 1000 to 2000 IU a day.

Side Effects

Side effects are very rare at this dose in people without other risk factors. Taking far too much vitamin D over time can raise blood calcium levels, causing nausea, vomiting, weakness, confusion, needing to urinate more, excessive thirst or kidney stones, this isn't expected at the prescribed dose.

Ingredients

The active ingredient is colecalciferol (vitamin D3) 20000 IU (500 micrograms).

Warnings

Avoid exceeding 4000 IU a day without your calcium and vitamin D levels being monitored by a clinician. Use with caution if you have sarcoidosis, an overactive parathyroid gland, a history of high blood calcium, or kidney stones. This can interact with certain diuretic tablets and with digoxin, mention all your regular medicines to your prescriber. A follow-up blood test at 12 weeks is usually recommended before continuing at a high dose.
