Blood pressure check

A proper reading, taken twice, with what the numbers mean

High blood pressure has no symptoms, which is the whole problem with it. A five minute check now is the cheapest thing you will do for your heart, and we explain the two numbers rather than just reading them out.

Who it is for

  • Anyone over 40 who has not had a reading in the last year
  • People with a family history of high blood pressure, stroke or heart disease
  • Anyone whose home monitor is giving readings they do not trust

What happens on the day

  • You sit quietly for a few minutes first, because rushing in skews the result
  • Two readings taken, because a single one is unreliable
  • A plain explanation of both numbers and whether they need acting on

What to bring

  • Your home monitor readings if you have been keeping them

Afterwards

A written record of the reading, and a GP referral letter if it is high
