Inflammation check

Standard CRP, which rises with infection and inflammation

CRPFinger prickResults in about 5 minutes

C-reactive protein is made by the liver and climbs quickly when there is infection or inflammation anywhere in the body. This is the standard version rather than the high-sensitivity one used for heart screening, so it is for acute infection, flare-ups of conditions like arthritis, lupus or IBD, and checking recovery after surgery.

Who it is for

  • Anyone with an unexplained fever or feeling persistently unwell
  • People with a long-term inflammatory condition tracking a flare
  • Anyone recovering from surgery who wants to check things are settling

Also called

C-reactive protein, Infection marker

What happens next

Results in about 5 minutes. The pharmacist goes through what the number means with you, and tells you plainly if it is something to take to your GP
